Yeah, it's been a while, I know.
Yeah, this is short, I know.
I was going to buy Guitar Hero II for the 360 when it came out anyway, but now I guess I must.

| a REAL mii parade |

My Userpic is my Mii - a user created caricature on the Wii that can be used in some games and and shared with friends. There are a few ways to share them, one where I send it directly to any friends in my address book, or transfer it to the Wii Remote for taking to a friend's place and transferring onto their Wii.
Another is a kind of addictingly random feature called Mii Parade. When I created my Mii, I turned on an option known as Mingle. This, combined with turning on a Travel option, makes it so that any mingling Miis from a friends' Wii may end up in my Mii Parade, and mine theirs.
Today I had the biggest parade yet - 106 Miis!
For the first time in a long time, this picture has been formatted to fill the entire screen of your PSP. |

There are other things going on in world of videogames, but I only want to post this:

We're in a tight spot! You want ME to thank YOU?! I'm going back to bed. |

As stated in my most recent non-videoegame related entry, I've been pretty busy lately.
A couple weeks ago, I picked up Contact for the DS and Splinter Cell: Double Agent for the 360. I've had a little bit more time with both, and both are great and highly recommended (to answer your question about Contact, Shane).
This week hasn't been too busy for pizza, but it has been too hectic for videogames. This makes me sad because on Thursday I picked up the highly anticipated Gears of War (a Cliffy B production) for the 360. When people ask me how it is, I make a disgusted face and exhale deeply and loudly because all I've really had the opportunity to do so far is open up the slick, limited edition tin case and gloss over its contents - I haven't played it yet.
Oh, also on Thursday I received my Wii.
I have it hooked up using plain ol' composite cables until I get my component cables, hence why they're in the front A/V input of the television. Also, the sensor bar's cable will go around my TV when I get the component cable, this was me being lazy. So far I only have ExciteTruck (which is really fuckin' fun), and Wii Sports (which will be packed-in with every Wii in North America, Europe, and Australia for a limited time).
I haven't dabbled too much with the Wii either, save for playing about an hour of Wii Sports the other night.
Then on Friday, I received Elite Beat Agents, Yoshi's Island DS, and Final Fantasy V (the last one of which I'm not concerned with). Have I played any of these gaming gems? Of course not!
I guess this it what it feels like to work for a company trying to successfully launch a major new product that's expected to carry them through the next five or six years.
Oh by the way, Rainbow Six: Vegas comes out within the next two weeks and I should be getting my copy The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess this week, not to mention other launch titles I have my sights set on.
The holidays are always the best of times and the worst of times for gamers. Other than the excitement of the new systems, this year is no different. |

| Initial Impressions |
[Oct. 21st, 2006|09:14 pm] |
I've played a little of both my recent purchases so far. Here are my initial impressions:
Contact: charming; intricate but sortable menus/stats; more time needed.
Splinter Cell: Double Agent (single-player): visually impressive; is it just me, or is the training kinda dumb?; is it just me, or is the first mission harder than the first missions from previous SCs?
I'm going to go play some more Splinter Cell, but damned if I'll get much further in the game if I'm Tilted. |

| FINALLY! |
[Oct. 20th, 2006|06:36 pm] |

I will post thoughts on it when I'm satisfied that I played enough to post thoughts on it.
I also picked up Splinter Cell: Double Agent but, let's be honest, it's just not picture worthy. I'll post thoughts on that too when the moment is right. |

| No One Can Stop Mr. D! |
[Sep. 25th, 2006|11:04 pm] |
Perhaps you all remember the title No One Can Stop Mr. Domino!! (it did, after all, appear on my list of all the games that I can remember enjoying ever [i need to update that list]). I bring it up because IGN just posted a five and a half minute "commercial" for the Wii, and near the very end there's a clip for a game that looks similar-but-not-quite-the-same called Mr. D Goes To Town. As much as I want to see a sequels to other titles (NiGHTS, please!), I can't stop myself from smiling like an idiot at the the thought of a new Mr. Domino game (the greatness of this is tarnished only slightly by the fact that ArtDink doesn't appear to be involved).
Unrelated to cute, little, walking dominos... This evening I downloaded the demo for F.E.A.R. on the 360 and within the first three minutes I was a little creeped out (in a good way!). I look forward to being creeped out some more soon. |

| Happy Belated Birthday, Employer. |
[Sep. 24th, 2006|10:23 pm] |
Yesterday was Nintendos 117 birthday.
Founded in Kyoto, Japan in 1889, Nintendo Co. Ltd. made hanafuda (playing cards).
Shortly after the World Wars, they were thought to have strong yakuza (Japanese mafia) ties because the yakuza purchased a lot of hanafuda for gambling purposes.
In the late '60s, they branched out into the toy market, and a decade later into the coin-op arena. Around the same time, they entered the home console market by distributing the Magnavox Odyssey home computer in Japan.
After companies like Atari, Coleco and Amiga jacked up the home ports of their arcade hits, Nintendo released the FamiCom ("Family Computer") in Japan and, a few years later in '85, the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES) in the States. Early on, they avoided terms like "videogames" and "cartridge" because they felt there was a negative vibe with them in the States (having come out after "the great videogame crash" of the early '80s), hence the "Entertainment System" moniker and them calling games "Paks." After taking America by storm (one in three homes had a NES at it's peak), Nintendo was confident enough to call it what it was and videogames would never be the same.
Happy belated birthday, Nintendo!
(i stopped linking things early on because our internet is acting up, i'm sorry) |

| DS stuff |
[Sep. 21st, 2006|09:51 pm] |
Reviews for Contact are trickling in, and so far all of them hover around the 7 - 7.5 area - all but one, anyway: Play.
Plays writers (almost to a fault) love games, and it shows in everything they do. Their previews are optimistic, their exclusives gush, and their reviews almost always highlight the good in every game (unless the game really is that bad or, worse, mediocre).
Play gave Contact a 9.5 and, despite the other (possibly more realistic) reviews out there, this was all I needed to verify that this game is going to be an experience and I cannot wait for it.
If you're not as hyped up on Contact as I am but you are hyped up on Castlevania, then you might want to pre-order Castlevania: Portrait Of Ruin for the DS at your favorite EB or GameStop. For pre-orderers, the retailer is giving a Castlevania 20th Anniversary Soundtrack CD! Personally I'd rather have a whip, but the CD should be pretty sweet. |

| Five More Random Wii Stuffs |
[Sep. 14th, 2006|09:30 pm] |
A LOT of Wii information came out today in addition to date and price. Normally I link to everything, but here I'm just going to run down a list of things and y'all can take my word for it.
1. Third-party support for the Virtual Console include, but isn't limited to:
 2. Nintendo first party titles will all support widescreen and progressive scan. Also, they will be region free. Third-parties will have the option to support all three of these things, and I most certainly hope they do.
3. DVD playback has been dropped. Nintendo sees this as superfluous at this point.
4. Like Xbox Live, you can send messages (only text for now though) from one Wii to another, but you can also send them to PCs (presumably through email) and cell phones. If you have photos on an SD card, you can send those along too.
5. The interface is set up with twelve boxes, 3 x 4 (scrollable to add more), called channels. One of the channels is a Weather Forecasts Channel that will give you your local forecast on a map. You can zoom out to see weather in other places in your region, or further to see the nation, or further still to see the world (this is all done Google Maps-style, where you can move the area around by grabbing it with a hand icon and pulling it where you want to see). In the world view, you can "grab" the globe and spin it really fast. I don't know that I'm going to be using this feature daily, but I do think it's pretty cool. I could easily see a developer using this feature to change environments (nearly) in real-time. Take a racing game with real-world tracks; have it pick the conditions based off the weather and time of that area, and that would be fuckin' sweet.
I'll leave this as a Top Five (off the top of my head, anyway) for now, and add more later. For now I have a Strawberries & Cream Pepsi Jazz with Absolut Vanilia with my name on it.
P.S. Damn you Erik, you were right on the money. |

I'm pretty Nintendo-centric here, but do try to mention news from the Sony and Microsoft camps when I find it to be newsworthy.
I wouldn't mind having some good Sony news - I really wouldn't - but they are so goddamned cocky and arrogant lately that I cannot help but laugh when something like this happens.
Are they even trying anymore?! Seriously, what the fuck are they thinking?
(for those not clicking the link, the PS3 was delayed in PAL territories until March 2007)
EDIT: ... And the hits just keep on coming!
(this link deals with how Sony will have, not the previously stated 2 million units at launch, but 500,000 [U.S. - 400,000, JPN - 100,000]) |

| Good Times. |
[Aug. 23rd, 2006|09:46 pm] |
A (possibly bad) translation from the Nintendo/EA event at the Leipzig Game Convention:
Electronic Arts announces six titles to be at launch for Wii:
Madden NFL 2007 The Godfather Tiger Woods PGA Golf 2007 Harry Potter Need For Speed: Carbon SSX
Add to that the seven launch titles UbiSoft announced:
Red Steel Rayman Raving Rabbids Far Cry Blazing Angels Open Season Monster 4x4: World Circuit GT Pro Series
And we have the makings of one hell of a launch line up (obviously the above does not include Activision, Konami, THQ, or Nintendo themselves, among others). |
